Do I believe these things,or am I just saying this stuff to get elected, then I’ll do something different? That was the most notable question I’ve heard so far after three days at the Deschutes County Fair. Wow! If I was just saying things to get elected, would I say these things? No, I assure everyone, my political positions are based on my understanding of economics, the Constitution, and international affairs. My opinions may be flawed but they’re genuinely mine and intended to address issues to the best of my abilities. For positions put forth based on calculated popularity; I wouldn’t dream of competing with the “real” politicians. First off, I do not expect “leadership”. America is supposed to be the place where the citizens tell the government what to do, not the other way around. The only thing a president should lead is the executive branch and the military in time of war. Next, I expect Representation. I am sick of politicians who talk about how they have strong vision and will stick to their values at all costs. I don’t care about a politicans values, his/her job as a representative is to represent my values. A politician who changes direction with public opinion is doing their job. Because, their job is to represent (not lead) their constituency. I will offer that your positions and mine tend to correspond well on many issues.
