Hey Wilber, Put down that steak knife! Rep. John Spratt of South Carolina claims of horses that “They’re as close to human as any animal you can get.”
According to Rep. Christopher Shays of Connecticut, “The way a society treats its animals, particularly horses, speaks to the core values and morals of its citizens.” What about the pigs, cattle, and chickens? Is Shays Hindu? Is he a vegan? These two notably absurd quotes were part of the House debate over the slaughter of horses for meat. I don’t refute the gruesome nature of any slaughter house, but once again I’m left to wonder; doesn’t our government have better things to do with its time? Michael Previous: Pretexting?
