Republicans Need to Unite Against HarrisFlorida’s Republican religious zealot Katherine Harris may win Tuesday’s primary because so many Republicans were eager to run against her. She leads her three opponents in polls only by 38% v 37%. Unfortunately, her opponents are splitting that 37%. William McBride carries 22%, LeRoy Collins 11%, and Peter Monroe holds 3%. If these poll numbers are credible, it would be nice to see Collins and Monroe drop out of this race and let McBride have a clear shot at Harris. Harris has professed that “If you’re not electing Christians, then in essence you are going to legislate sin.” I’m not a theologian, but I’d consider it a sin for the voters of Florida to endorse this self-righteous bigotry. To paraphrase Barry Goldwater’s quote about Jerry Falwell, “Every good Christian ought to kick Harris right in the ass.” Michael Previous: Barry’s Golden Words -- Next: Shake My Hand, Dammit!
