The More the Merrier…It’s good to see Texas Rep. Ron Paul joining the Republican presidential hunt, and I hope Nebraska Sen. Chuck Hagel dives in too. Ron Paul is a longtime libertarian who rejects big government and questions the imperial presidency. I’d encourage all voters to take a serious look at his website. Sen. Chuck Hagel is a bit more conservative on social issues than I would prefer, but he has courageously and articulately objected to the “surge” strategy in Iraq. He would add an important perspective to the national debate. There is some talk of former House Speaker Newt Gingrich getting into the race. I don’t agree with Gingrich’s view that all morality is founded in our religious heritage, and I think his presence merely panders to the religious right. But, if his presence serves as a contrast to those with more balanced views of the first amendment, then come on in Mr. Gingrich.
