Drinking AgeThe drinking age should be 18. It’s most appropriately a states’ matter, but since the federal constitution defines the voting age at 18, the age of majority is 18, and the age of military service is 18, eighteen-year-olds should be able to consume any otherwise legal product. The federal government has no business coercing states to change the drinking age by withholding highway funds. The National Youth Rights Association has more information, including data that challenges the assumption that raising the drinking age has lowered the incidence of DUI.
