School PrayerThe first amendment states: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; When a government funded institution, like a public school, that holds significant influence over the life of an impressionable youngster, incorporates something like a daily prayer into the routine, it sure seems like establishment of religion. I didn’t like school prayer when I was in catholic grade school, and I assumed the public school kids didn’t have to deal with such nonsense. Let’s keep it that way. Prayer should have no place in publicly funded functions. I do believe that parents have a right to raise their children how they like and I support school choice. Now, as Sister Mary-Esther would say every day of my eighth grade year, “Let’s pray for the eighth grade boys with the bad attitudes.”Previous: Separation of Church & State -- Next: School Vouchers |
